'Drawing' has been a means of expression that reflects my yearning for the spiritually awakening mind during my art practice for last nearly two decades. Just as the word "drawing" means to bring out or reveal, the lightest and simplest materials—a 3H-5H pencils or a brush dipped in ink—reveal the most honest and true state of my mind at the very moment.

In 2019, after visiting a bamboo forest in Anmyeondo in South Korea, and being deeply moved by the straight, light green, clear, and vibrant life force of the bamboo, I returned to the US and started growing two small bamboo bonsai trees. When I draw triangle or bamboo, I don't focus on representing the form of the bamboo or particular mountain, but rather on revealing its life force and transforming it into a feeling of energy on my paper. I don't pursue to represent something resemble that already exists, but rather to reveal something that I subtly perceive and feel, something that only art can convey. By naturally forgetting myself and gradually immersing myself in that moment, I transcend myself and connect with a larger self, the universe.

I constantly dream of the freedom of being beyond location and time. I imagine beyond here and now. In this respect, Drawing is inevitable medium, which helps meeting my inner state of mind in a quiet moment. Lastly, it is a medium that I would like to commit to practice ceaselessly and explore deeply with a humble mind.
